Trends and fads follow a predictable cycle, picture it as a bell curve. By the time the general public see these looks in major shelter magazines or at mass retailers, they’re likely on the downhill slope, already being phased out by design leaders looking ahead to the next big thing.
Trends tend to last longer (think five to ten years) and often evolve rather than disappear entirely.
Fads, on the other hand, burn brightly but briefly—usually lasting only a season or two before feeling dated.
